About Avery

Avery was born overseas to deployed Air Force parents. He spent his childhood moving every two to three years across America as many military families are asked to do. He learned early on in life, just how important the American values of sacrifice and service are.

With every move, he was exposed to many diverse subcultures scattered across our country. This gave him a unique and mature perspective on the American experience. Avery was able to see the many differences we have as a nation, but more importantly the commonalities that make our country so great.

After graduating from the University of Colorado Boulder School of Engineering, Avery has worked in two key fields that additionally qualify him to work for this district. Firstly, he worked in the energy field where he helped advance domestic wind energy implementation. He has had hands-on experience in helping develop future, domestically produced sustainable energy. Secondly, Avery since 2018 has been an engineer at Raytheon working to advance America’s defense through cutting edge technology at industry leading pace. He currently serves in two lead engineer roles, ensuring that our service men and women are kept safe by delivering the best equipment in the world.

Avery did not intend to get into politics, but it became apparent to him that our current system has major flaws that could use a fresh approach from a younger perspective. Having worked alongside both blue and white collar professionals, he has been able to develop a well rounded decision making process that is facts based– as opposed to special interest influenced decisions so common today. In short, Avery is interested in helping to heal the cracks in our democracy by bringing a higher level of scientific literacy to congress and by working together with others to find solutions to hard problems.

    The Platform

    A Younger Generation of Representation

The median age of the 117th Congress is 64.8 years old. This age demographic makes up 16% of the US population yet has nearly 70% of the representation in Congress. There is a fundamental disconnect between the people responsible for making the laws and the country the laws are being made for. The more senior members of Congress grew up and matured in a world that is much different than the world we are living in now. There is simply no way for majority of our law makers to have that first hand experience of what it is like to go through the typical American experience in the 2020's. It's time we bring more youthful representation into our government.

    Data Driven Decision Making

In the world of engineering, decisions are not made on a whim. Every aspect of the design, impact, and implementation gets analyzed and tested by experts to ensure we can stand by and guarantee what we deliver. This is the same approach we should take with the decision making in Washington D.C.

    Young Voters

Young voters turned up to vote in record numbers in 2020, inspired by the promises of new policies on issues that were important to them. Since then, most of these promises have seemingly been forgotten. It is important to keep young voters involved in the process and have a constant reminder that The People are in charge of the government -- it is ultimately up to us to shape the world we want to live in.

    Energy

Arizona has the potential to be the leader in solar energy production. It is crucial that we lead the inevitable domestic transition from fossil fuels to sustainable energy sources. By diversifying energy supply and reducing dependence on imported fuels, we will create well-paying local jobs in technology, manufacturing, and energy while also reducing our air pollution and carbon footprint.

    Education

High-wage states are states with a well-educated workforce. There is a clear and strong correlation between the educational attainment of a state’s workforce and median wages in the state. Increasing educational attainment can be achieved by a variety of policies and programs, including those that increase access to postsecondary education by  increasing financial aid, increasing the quality of K-12 education, and offering preschool programs that lead to long-term improvements in educational outcomes throughout the students' lifetime.

    Stop the Crazy

Sensationalism has taken over Washington D.C. With the increasing polarization of the parties, an unwillingness to collaborate with others of a different viewpoint has come with it. The parties effectively become echo chambers where the only real opinions that stand out are extreme in nature. This is what gets media coverage and, in turn, becomes more mainstream. We are rapidly approaching a critical inflection point, one where the pillars of our democracy appear to be in danger. Baseless claims and fear mongering have evolved into propaganda with no basis in reality, to stir up an already upset populous. This blatant abuse of power needs to curbed immediately. Reasonable and communicative people need to take back these roles and restore a sense of normalcy and transparency in our government.
